ARCHIVE : TICKETS GO ON SALE FOR FOOD AND DRINK EXTRAVAGANZA
Tickets are now on sale for the eighth Derbyshire Food and Drink Fair.
The two-day fair at Bolsover Castle is being held on Saturday and Sunday 16-17 May and is organised by Derbyshire County Council.
The tickets are available from Bolsover Castle and cost £2.50 per adult and £1.50 for concessions. They can also be bought on the day.
Children under 16 years get into the fair for free and tickets cover entry to the castle and the grounds. Opening times are 10am-5pm on Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday.
The fair is the launchpad for the Derbyshire Food Festival, also organised by the county council, which runs from 16-25 May, and a booklet listing all the festival events at venues across the county is now available.
People can pick up a festival booklet from any Derbyshire Tourist Information Centre or ring Call Derbyshire on 08456 058 058 and ask for one.
Thousands of people attended the Derbyshire Food and Drink Fair last year and this year it should be just as popular, with more stalls then ever showcasing a vast array of local produce.
There will also be a large craft fair, crafts@thecastle, in the Riding House of the castle, displaying a wide range of traditional and contemporary crafts.
A wide selection of locally produced goods, from chocolates, meats, cheeses, smoked goods, pies, pickles, cakes, beer and wine will be on sale during the fair and many stall holders will be offering free tasting sessions.
As well as the numerous stalls there will be live music and a wide range of entertainment to keep people of all ages amused.
For the first time this year there will be an activity corner for children and families which will be held in the castle’s Discovery Room.
Celebrity chef Brian Turner will be at the fair for both days showing off his culinary skills in the cookery theatre and there will also be a host of chefs from Derbyshire eateries demonstrating their signature dishes and giving people culinary advice and tips.
The TV chef is also backing the Derbyshire Food Festival which sees dozens of local restaurants, cafes, shops and food producers across the county holding a range of events.
These range from taste-testing sessions and cookery demonstrations to tours, locally-source menus, competitions and talks.
