ARCHIVE : POPULAR FESTIVAL GUIDE IS A MUST FOR FOOD BUSINESSES

Food and drink businesses are being urged to take advantage of free entry in a prestigious food and drink guide for Derbyshire.

Thousands of people will be sent or pick up a copy of the 2008 guide detailing food and drink establishments in the county and also giving details of what’s happening for Derbyshire Food Festival, which runs from Saturday 17 May to Monday 26 May.

The guide will feature dozens of Derbyshire restaurants, cafes, shops and food producers across the county who will be holding events organised especially to mark festival week. These will include taste-testing sessions, cookery demonstrations, tours, Derbyshire-sourced menus, competitions and talks.

The festival, organised by Derbyshire County Council, is being endorsed by celebrity chef Brian Turner, who has written a foreword for the guide. Also organised by the county council, is the Derbyshire Food Fair which is being held for the seventh year at Bolsover Castle on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 May.

All venues taking part in this year’s Derbyshire Food Festival receive free advertising in the colour guide which details their business and the event they are holding during festival week. Many taking part in the festival will also have stalls at the Derbyshire Food Fair, where people will get a preview of what they have to offer.

More than 12,500 people flocked to the Derbyshire Food Fair last year to sample food and drink from producers across the county and visit more than 100 stalls, attractions and crafts@thecastle. Homemade wines, cheese, chutney, buffalo burgers and honey were just some of the tempting treats on offer to the crowds over the weekend. As well as demonstrations and tastings, visitors will also be able to pick up tips and advice from celebrity chef James Tanner.

Derbyshire County Council cabinet member for regeneration Councillor Geoff Carlile said: “Derbyshire boasts a wealth of top quality food and drink and these events are the perfect showcase for all that is on offer.
“The county council is proud to be staging these events again this year and we hope businesses will get involved, sign up and promote their top quality establishments and produce.”

Businesses, from producers to restaurant owners, who want to secure a stall at the fair, or hold a festival event and be included in the guide, should contact Derbyshire County Council international/tourism officer Steph Walsh on 01629 585964 for more details, or e-mail stephanie.walsh@derbyshire.gov.uk.
